Although it may feel like summertime year-round in LA, there are certain pastimes that can be better enjoyed in the peak of the season. We’ve collected this week’s quintessential summer events and activities to make the most out of the longer days and warmer nights.

WHAT TO DO IN LA:

Horseback Riding Tour to the Hollywood Sign
Making the trek to the Hollywood Sign is a rite of passage in LA. While most conquer Mount Lee on foot, the horseback riding tour adds a couple extra legs to the equation.

July 12: Chinatown Summer Nights
Restaurants, shopping, bands and craft artisans all come together at Chinatown’s Central and West Plazas for Chinatown Summer Nights. This month’s event features a photo booth, a Capuchin Monkey with his trainer, clay sculptors and a Black Apples band performance.

Hollywood Youth Theatre Summer Acting Camp
After spending the last nine months studying math and grammar, kids can catch a break by learning LA’s trade. Youngsters can choose from improv theatre, screen acting and musical theatre and perhaps become the next Audrey Hepburn or Hugh Jackman (who got his start playing Gaston in the musical version of Beauty and the Beast in Australia).

WHAT TO SEE IN LA:

July 10: Ringling Bros. Circus
The big red tent is nostalgic for older crowds, but the Ringling Bros. Circus has found a new home at Staples Center. All the extra square footage just means that the performance company’s signature routines like aerialists, acrobats and winged horses will have more space to spread their wings.

July 12: Christmas in July at Eat See Hear Santa Monica
Christmas will come five months early this year at Eat See Hear’s Christmas in July. This week’s event encourages Christmas junkies to dress up in holiday garb while they watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. There will be a decorated tree, a sleigh full of goodies and even Santa Claus to bring a happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night… just a little bit before schedule.

July 12: Jurassic 5 at the Greek Theatre
It’s not every day that a major hip hop band from the 90s reunites for a tour, but this summer is a big one for Jurassic 5 fans. LA’s Jurassic 5 has brought together all six of their members for their Word of Mouth Tour that will pass through the city this week.

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK IN LA:

July 9: Summer Sights and Sips Cruise
Sunset cruises are a daily occurrence in Marina Del Rey, but they’re made even better with the calm waves and slow pace of the season. Unwind after a day at work with an ice cold drink, appetizers and panoramic views of sailboats, the beach and the sun dipping below the horizon.

Camellia Lounge at Descanso Gardens
In the summer months, the sun stays out longer and Descanso Gardens stay open later. Open only Tuesdays through Thursdays until August, the canopied Camellia Lounge is a relaxing place to grab a drink, munch on snacks or have a full-fledged meal while the sun is still shining for everyone to enjoy.

A Night at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
Home to the Tropicana rooftop bar, 25 Degrees burger joint, the Library Bar and the vintage-inspired Spare Room with board games, bowling lanes and Moscow mules, the Hollywood Roosevelt is a summertime hotspot when it comes to wining and dining.
