The Third Street Promenade, located in Santa Monica, has become a popular tourist destination. It's actually considered one of the premier shopping locations in West Los Angeles and attracts crowds from all over LA County. The Promenade is a part of a large redevelopment that is happening in Downtown Santa Monica.
Third Street has it all from shops to restaurants and even movie theatres. Tenants include Borders, The Gap, Armani Exchange, Apple, Pottery Barn, Barnes & Noble, Urban Outfitters, French Connection UK and Anthropologie. The Promenade also has the original Starbucks Hear Music Coffeehouse and also contains AMC Theatres, Loews Theatres and Mann Theatres. For those looking for fresh produce, there is also a farmers' market located here.
Since the town's creation, Third Street has been a center of business in Santa Monica. The 1960's is actually when the Promenade's roots date back at a time when the Santa Monica Mall was developed and an outdoor shopping promenade was created. There was a serious economic decline in the late 1970's, which hurt the Promenade, but the area was renovated in the 1980's and has built into what it has become today.
Walking around Third Street Promenade is a great way to take in the Santa Monica way of life and experience true Southern California by the beach living. Make sure to stop and watch the many street performers and entertainers throughout the Promenade as well.
