L.A. Master Chorale Celebrates "Lux Aeterna"'s 20th Anniversary

Morten Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna" sent ripples of excitement throughout the choral world when the Master Chorale premiered it in 1997. Since then, the work's influence on choral music has been felt far and wide, and the "meditation on light" remains one of the most popular choral works in contemporary classical music. Now, in celebration of its 20th anniversary, LAMC Artistic Director Grant Gershon directs 115 singers in a performance of the piece, and has also chosen iconic music from some of the city's most influential composers, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Shawn Kirchner, and commissions of new works by Moira Smiley and Grammy winners Billy Childs and Eric Whitacre to showcase the extraordinary talent that was inspired by Lauridsen.
