With new bars sprouting up all over LA, bar trivia nights have cemented themselves as a part of Los Angelian culture. However, not every bar trivia night is created equal and some are more serious than others.

For those just looking for a fun alternative to the regular club or cocktail lounge, here’s a list of bars with top notch trivia for every night of the week.

  • Busby’s West

    8pm Sundays, Santa Monica

    UCLA sports fans and alumni find themselves flocking to Busby’s West not only to watch their Bruins, but to compete in weekly trivia. The atmosphere is competitive, yet casual, with prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Appetizers like cheese fries and crab cakes come in portions fit to split with teammates, although sharing remains optional.

  • The Fox & Hounds

    8pm Mondays, Studio City

    Back in school, you might’ve cringed at the words “Pop Quiz.” But now at The Fox & Hounds, it’s a chance to pit your wit against a lively crowd whilst enjoying traditional English favorites like fish and chips and bangers and mash in generous portions.

  • JP's Sports Bar

    8:30pm Tuesdays, Santa Monica

    This quaint dive bar has a tendency to pack the house just before start time. JP’s is the perfect destination for those who take pleasure in the casual dive ambiance, but whom still seek to have a fun-filled night out with a young, eclectic crowd. The fifty-cent pool table is also popular here.

  • The Garage Featuring the Motor Club

    8:30pm Wednesdays, Downtown

    The long name is fitting for this dual purpose sports bar and gastropub. Big Happy Trivia plays host for the night, although be forewarned: Making a reservation is the best way to ensure your team gets a slot in the competition (just email bighappytrivia@gmail.com). First place is a $75 bar tab, with $25 going to the runners-up. For competitors with an appetite, the Garage is known for its mouthwatering bacon, truffle and jalapeno tater tots, as well as its array of sliders, including lobster and short rib.

  • The Famous

    8pm Thursdays, Glendale

    Located in Glendale’s historic Huntley-Evans building, The Famous has been one of LA’s go-to spots to watch sports and grab a craft cocktail or beer. Now, Thursday nights are dedicated to trivia, where 1st, 2nd and 3rd place go home winners. Craft beer fans will be pleased with almost 20 brews on tap and the spirits list is extensive, as well.

  • The Hard Rock Cafe

    10pm Fridays, Hollywood

    By far the largest of the bars on our list (and the most tourist friendly), this 20,000-square-foot destination is where those waiting for trivia to start can kill time by scaling a rock wall. There are plenty of photo ops, with celebrity memorabilia like Jim Morrison’s leather pants and Joni Mitchell’s old love letters on display. The Legendary Experience menu, featuring a selection of 10-ounce Angus Burgers, is sure to appease that competitive appetite.

  • Little Bar Lounge

    8pm Saturdays, Miracle Mile

    Little Bar Lounge is a little slice of New England right here in LA, famous for its clam chowder and die-hard Patriots regulars. Boasting 18 beers on tap, as well as a unique list of cocktail concoctions, and a rotating selection of wines, there's constantly something new to try. A game of darts is almost always going on in between trivia rounds, too. Fans of HBO’s Entourage and Showtime’s Shameless may remember a cameo from seeing this aptly named little bar.
