Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers weren't always from the City of Angels. In the 1960s the Lakers moved from Minnesota to LA and kept their team name, despite that fact that Los Angeles isn't exactly known for its abundance of lakes. It was in the late '70s and '80s when the Lakers' popularity soared, with superstar players such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy. In those years the team had five winning titles, with 3 championship series against their archrivals the Boston Celtics.
Again in the 2000s, the amazing trio of coach Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal brought three straight championships before O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat. The Lakers home games are played at the Staples Center in downtown LA, an incredibly popular venue frequented by celebrities and surrounded by fine dining establishments and exciting nightlife.
