HOLLYWOOD GETS A NEW SENSE OF HUMORSince its 2006 inception, Comedy Cocktail has fast become one of the most talked about comedic evenings in Los Angeles. Chicago comedy veterans Amber J. Lawson and Jay Leggett have joined forces to produce a fresh formula for funny. By combining well seasoned and new to the scene sketch troupes they have simultaneously combined guaranteed laughter with the excitement of fresh faces. Occasional special guests like Andy Dick, Jeff Garlin and Crista Flanagan up the already high ante. VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFELeggett, a Second City alum and successful screenwriter, directs each show as if it is an hour of television comedy. Shows are performed the first Friday of every month at the Highlands Nightclub, located on the fourth floor of famed Los Angeles attraction Hollywood and Highland. This atmosphere contrasts a posh lounge setting with some of the most seriously exquisite views of L.A. against some of the most serious comedic talent and originality in town. In addition to the live comedy, short films are also screened, which adds to the variety the Comedy Cocktail offers each evening. Some of these films have gone on to win top honors at such prestigious venues as the Aspen and Toronto Comedy Festivals. Many of the performers have also gone to win top honors, such as Kate Flannery who recently won an Emmy for her work on the hit comedy “The Office”. The night is also a hot spot for Hollywood industry heavyweights such as agencies ICM, CAA and WMA along with networks HBO, MTV, Comedy Central, etc. These attendees truly serve as a testament to the talent breeding ground reputation the Comedy Cocktail has so well earned. Doors open at 8 pm, curtains open at 8:30 and attire is upscale casual. Seating is limited and on a first come first serve basis. VIP booths are available to reserve for parties of 6-8 people. Tickets can also be reserved online for $10 (through Goldstar) or purchased for $20 at the door. Audience must be 21 or older. Dinner reservations are also available upstairs at popular Los Angeles restaurant Loggia which offers a pan Asian menu prepared by Chef Fred Iwasaki, and a free dessert of appetizer to ticket holders. |
